Effects of Extreme Event Wind Loads on Structures Project (Overview)

I was one of the select few who were chosen to participate in Research Experience for Undergraduates at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA).My work on this project was under the instruction of Dr. Nur Yazdani, P.E. and the graduate student Tanvir Manzur. We investigated ways to minimize the effect of extreme event wind loads on residential structures. Hurricanes and tornadoes are the first things that come to mind, but it is improbable to design residential structures against tornadoes because it would be very costly. Therefore we spent most of our time investigating the mitigation of the effects of hurricane winds.
